The ultimate colonial Mexican experience
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
A majestic treasure in the mountains of central Mexico, San Miguel stands still in time with its pastel-colored houses, centuries old churches and cobble-stoned streets.
Surrounded by this rich cultural environment, La Casa del Diezmo is a window into the past.
This historic property was originally the town's "House of Tithes", where citizens paid their 10% tax to the Catholic Church. It was a place of power and wealth.
Today is it a serene hotel centered around a lovely garden restaurant.

History
Founded in 1542 by the Franciscan monk Frey Juan de San Miguel, this small colonial town in the Bajio mountains was an important stopover on the famed silver routes of central Mexico. It became a centerpiece in the War of Independence from Spain, when its native son, General Ignacio Allende, led troops into battle. It’s now an UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its mild climate.

Architecture
Rich with Spanish colonial architecture, San Miguel’s magnificent churches and buildings combine both baroque and neoclassical elements. Walk the windy cobble-stoned streets and you’ll find a surprise around every corner.
